Dentists and dental hygienists use more technical words to describe gum disease.

They would call gum disease in its early stage gingivitis and those in the later stages as periodontitis.

When your gums become swollen, red, or feel hot and bleed easily, they will call this inflammation. If you are not familiar with some of the words the dentist uses, you may feel it is difficult to communicate with your dentist about your oral health.
