For some people with diabetes, using dental floss can be difficult. Arthritis or nerve damage in your hands can make it hard to hold the floss or reach the far end of your mouth. Or if you have larger gaps in your teeth, or crooked teeth, and find it is easy to have food debris stuck between your teeth, you might want to get them removed from time to time.
If traditional flossing is challenging, try to consider flossing aids including:
• a plastic or wooden dental pick (also called floss holder) - small tool that holds the floss, so you don’t need to wrap it around your fingers.
• interdental (means between teeth) brushes - specially designed to clean between teeth.
• water flosser - hand-held device that sprays water to reach those tricky spots.
